A Metric Mechanic Ultimate transmission is a re-engineered Getrag or ZF manual transmission that can be shifted more aggressively and is designed to last far longer than a BMW factory or conventional rebuild. Spanning over 4 decades, Metric Mechanic has developed a stellar reputation for building the very best transmissions for the BMW enthusiast or racer. “The MM Ultimate transmission”.
- Using prioritized machining steps Synchronizers last up to 50 times longer.
- Can take more aggressive shifting.
- Viton seals are used to reduce oil leaks.
- Higher load rated bearings, when needed.
- Blueprinted with tighter end play clearance than factory.
- All aluminum shift forks are Moly coated to prevent premature wear.
- Reverse idle gear rattle is reduced in Getrag 240 and 260 transmissions.
- Re-machined operating sleeve teeth on ZF 5 & 6 speeds.
Terms and costs
Once a customer order is written up, we require half down to get started.
The down payment can be done with a Visa / Mastercard / Discovery / American Express credit card, PayPal or certified check. There are the 3 ways to purchase a MM Ultimate transmission.- The customer orders a Metric Mechanic Ultimate transmission and we build it from a used transmission core. It takes about 3 to 6 weeks to complete the build. The balance is paid before shipping plus the core deposit and shipping.
- Sometimes we have MM Ultimate transmissions on the self, that can be sold on exchange. The customer pays the cost of a transmission, plus the core deposit, and shipping. The transmission is shipped in a few day.
- Or customer elects to send in their manual transmission to be built into a MM Ultimate transmission. It needs to be drained and we can tell you the beast way to ship. We take half down when we receive the transmission and the other half prior to shipping. It takes about 3 to 6 weeks to complete the build.
A core is a used engine, transmission, or differential that is rebuildable. Core deposits is not a set cost and is subject to change; based on availability, condition, and cost. The cores, we need, are for Classic BMWs that are 15 to 50+ years old. BMWs this old are very scares in salvage yards, many of the cores are too far gone to be rebuildable, and the rarer the core, the more the price goes up.
Anymore, we will not waste a lot of time on finding cores. We buy use cores from suppliers or customers. We appreciate customers that are willing to supply their own cores.
After installation, the return transmission core can be sent back in the shipping box.
Returned cores must be rebuildable to get a full refund or pay a penalty for the damaged core.
